  2. kdraper2007 says:

    The sub being …
The sub being underwater prevents it from being seen on radar. the submarine is designed to be hard to detect. subs are the origanal stealth vehicle. a nuclear sub only surfaces when entering or leaving port. they are less stable & slower on the surface.

I was on the USS San Juan when it happened. If the goverment didnt react the way they did the media would have acted the way they didn when the Kursk went down and the Russian goverment did not want any forgin natioanls to go down there for a rescure attempt enev though it could have been donw and everyone was waiting for the go ahead. I am happy to see the reaction time they had, bec if something was really wrong that would have helped…. These guys are idiots and dont know anything….

no, water prevents the sub from showing up on radar. Other (classified) things help keep it from showing up on sonar. These two are ignorant about what they’re talking about.

    Can someone explain …
Can someone explain what these two dimwitted morons are laughing about. It is quite apparent they know nothing about submarines and probably don’t have the intellect to understand any type of naval operations.

  12. hofcat says:

    The submarine had a …
The submarine had a certain time period they were supposed to stick an antenna out of the water and check in. They did not. In this case it was human error, sometimes it is equipment failure. This rarely happens, but every couple of years it can. Usually not to much of a concern for alarm unless a significant period of time goes by with out contact. What caused the since of urgency in this case is that there was a mistaken report of a red emergency flare. How do I know this, I am ex submariner.
